St. Nicholas Orthodox Church
Welcome to Our Parish!

Welcome to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church of Whitestone, New York. St. Nicholas, founded in 1916 as a parish of the North American Missionary Archdiocese of the Orthodox Church in Russia, is a parish of the New York - New Jersey Diocese of the Orthodox Church in America - which, in turn, is the legitimate fulfillment of early missionary efforts of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The parish's population is a diverse mixture of "cradle" Orthodox and converts. All services are in English. A church school, which meets on Sunday mornings, an "O" Club and a Sisterhood are some of the parish's programs and organizations. Its unusual exterior architecture is matched by interior iconography which is exceptionally beautiful.

As an Orthodox Christian parish, its faith is one with the undivided Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church as defined by the Scriptures and the first six Ecumenical Councils. Its inner life is centered around worship, especially the Divine Liturgy - at which the parish realizes its existence as being the anticipation and foretaste of the coming Kingdom of God.

"Christianity", said St. Seraphim of Sarov, one of Russia's greatest saints, "is the acquisition of the Holy Spirit." To put on the new life of God's Kingdom by acquiring the Holy Spirit, the love of Christ for all and everything is poured out into our hearts and our lives are transformed as we are made ready to meet Christ when He comes in power to raise the dead and judge the world.

We welcome anyone who lives in - or visits the New York City area - to come and worship with us. Please refer to our bulletin, which is posted on this site, for times of services and any activities that will be taking place.
