Father Joseph Woodill

Fr. Joseph Woodill was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, the first of five children. His parents are Joseph and
Stephanie (Yakimchuk). They were married at the Ukrainian Greek Catholic
 Cathedral in Philadelphia.

After serving in the military, Fr. Joseph married Charlotte (Heffner), his high school sweetheart, and began to raise a family.

With Charlotte’s encouragement, he enrolled in college on the GI Bill. After graduating (BA in philosophy and classics) from college, he enrolled in graduate school, but soon
was hired by the Navy as a manager. While working in Virginia for the Navy, he and Charlotte became involved in founding a mission parish. Their experience with mission work resulted in enrolling in St. Tikhon’s Seminary. Father Joseph was ordained a priest in his last year at the seminary. Father served parishes in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut and Washington, DC.

While serving as a parish priest, he studied at local colleges. He earned degrees at Villanova University (MA in philosophy and an MA in theology). He also attended Fordham University on a Presidential Scholarship and earned a PhD in ethics/theology.

Father has published articles and is the author of The Fellowship of Life: Virtue Ethics and Orthodox Christianity (published by Georgetown University Press). He has taught at the college and seminary level.

While serving the church, he has worked as a Senior Grants Management Specialist in Washington, DC. Father enjoys hiking, reading, writing and fly fishing.

Fr. Joseph and Charlotte reside in the rectory, the house just behind the church.  Those interested in learning more about St Nicholas Church or Orthodoxy are welcome to contact us by phone or email.
